Édition originale de cet album réunissant la reproduction lithographique de centaines de dessins de Picasso réalisés pour son monumental diptyque La Guerre et la Paix, commencé en 1951.
« Cet album est le journal des inquiétudes et des illuminations, des griffonnages et des éclairs, de la patience et des impatiences qui aboutirent à l’exécution, par Pablo Picasso, des deux grandes compositions la Guerre et la Paix » (p. 11).
Les cahiers de dessins furent à l’époque lithographiés par Fernand Mourlot sous le contrôle de Picasso, et ce fut pour le plaisir des amis de l’artiste et de quelques amateurs que Cercle d’Art publia cette édition qui offre un échantillon de ces précieux dessins. Parmi les centaines de reproductions figurent 8 grandes compositions en couleurs, dont 5 à pleine page et 3 sur double page.

First edition of this album bringing together the lithographic reproduction of hundreds of drawings by Picasso created for his monumental diptych War and Peace, begun in 1951. “This album is the diary of worries and illuminations, of scribbles and flashes, of patience and impatience which culminated in the execution, by Pablo Picasso, of the two great compositions War and Peace” (p. 11) .
The drawing books were at the time lithographed by Fernand Mourlot under the control of Picasso, and it was for the pleasure of the artist's friends and some amateurs that Cercle d'Art published this edition which offers a sample of these precious drawings.
Among the hundreds of reproductions are 8 large color compositions, including 5 full-page and 3 double-page.
