L’ouvrage ouvre sur la conférence donnée le 1er avril 1935 à Prague, « position politique de l’art d’aujourd’hui », et ferme sur celle du 29 mars, « situation surréaliste de l’objet ». Ici, Breton nous livre ses réflexions profondes, se voyant accusé de pratiquer un art et une pensée bourgeois. Vignette de couverture par Dali.
Exemplaire enrichi d’un envoi autographe de l’auteur adressé au traducteur Jean Carrive (1905-1963), proche des surréalistes, que Breton surnommait « le terroriste gascon. »
